I suspect that many people have been overloading the power conversion circuitry by plugging in high current things like a hair dryer and hence the bad reviews. I used it literally every single day of my trip and it worked flawlessly. It was a complete no-brainer - plug it into the 220 volt wall socket in my hotel room and then plug my electronic device into the Conair adapter/converter. I just got back home after using it for a week long trip to Shanghai and it worked absolutely perfectly. ![]() I don't know why so many people report having problems with this Conair Travel Smart adapter/converter. Wish they made this with capability to plug in two plugs AND with the slots for the C cord. For the future, if this doesn't prove to be flimsy, I'll likely by another so I can have two devices that need surge protection plugged in at the same time. I failed to notice the one-use-at-a time limitation, buying this because it was one of the few that was both a plug converter and a current adapter and surge protector. So, since this can only handle one plug-in at a time, you can't charge a phone at the same time you use it to power a laptop. I'll also note, if you failed to notice like I did, there are no openings to put in a C cord thingy.like you use to charge phones.you'll have to leave those plugged into its own converter plug, and then plug that into this box. When I pushed in my power cord, didn't feel solid like a wall outlet, again felt flimsy. Had to work it for awhile to get it back in. Flimsy impression is because, with one set of plugs, the first time I slid the button to extend the plug, it didn't want to retract. It feels really rather flimsy, but I'll be using it for 5 weeks soon so will update review.
